7 killed, 7 injured in truck-tractor collision in India

NEW DELHI, June 5, 2018 (BSS/XINHUA) – At least seven people were killed
and seven others injured in a collision between a dumper truck and a tractor
in northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, police said Tuesday.

The accident took place on Bilgram Kannauj road near Mallawan in Hardoi
district, about 97 km northwest of Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar
Pradesh.

“Late last night in a tragic road accident here seven labourers were killed
and seven others were injured when a dumper truck collided with a tractor,” a
police official posted in Hardoi said.

“The labourers working as construction workers were travelling in trolley
of the tractor. They had a concrete mixer attached to the tractor as well.”

The injured were admitted in neighbouring Kannauj district hospital, said
the police.

The victims are said to be locals.

Police have registered a case and ordered investigations into the accident.

Deadly road accidents are common in India often caused by overloading, bad
condition of roads and reckless driving.

Officials say on an average over 400 deaths take place every day in India
due to road accidents.
