Call to provide all facilities to persons with disabilities
GAIBANDHA, Dec 05, 2019 (BSS) – Speakers at a function here today said the
persons with disabilities would have to be developed as worthy citizens of
the country through providing them with all facilities, including healthcare,
education and employment.
As people with disabilities are inseparable part of the society, they
should be integrated with the mainstream of the society to ensure their
empowerment, they opined.
They made the comments while addressing a discussion at the auditorium of
public library here this afternoon, marking the International Day of Persons
with Disabilities.
District administration, Department of Social Services (DSS) and District
Integrated Disability Service Centre jointly organised the function in
cooperation with SKS Foundation, CDD, World Vision, GUK and Sarkerpara
Disable and Autistic School of Sadar upazila.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdul Matin addressed the meeting as the chief
guest while Civil Surgeon Dr ABM Abu Hanif, mayor of Gaibandha Municipality
Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon were present as the special guests.
With Deputy Director of the DSS Emdadul Haque Pramanik in the chair, the
function was also addressed by district coordinator of SHOMOTA project Hasina
Parvin and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman.
DC Abdul Matin in his speeches said the present government led by Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina implemented various programmes since 2009 to link the
persons with disabilities with the mainstream of the society for overall
development of the nation.
Later, different devices were distributed among the persons with
disabilities.
