Ensuring rights of girl child and preventing repression stressed

RANGPUR, Dec 05, 2019 (BSS) – Academics and human rights activists at a students’ rally today stressed on ensuring the rights of girl children and preventing depression on women and children to attain the sustainable development goals (SDGs)..

They viewed this at the rally followed by a discussion arranged at Government Teachers’ Training College (GTTC) auditorium in the city to observe the International Women Repression Prevention Fortnight- 2019 and International Human Rights Day-2019.

Rangpur district unit of Bangladesh Mohila Parishad (BMP) organised the events with the theme of Ensuring Rights and Security of Girl Child.

Principal of Rangpur GTTC Professor Md. Amjad Hossain attended the rally as the chief guest with President of the district unit of BMP Hasna Chowdhury in the chair.

Vice-principal of Rangpur GTTC Mosammat Lubna Akhter and Panel Lawyer of Rangpur district unit of BMP Advocate AAM Munir Chowdhury addressed the occasion as special guests.

General Secretary of the district unit of BMP Rummana Zaman, its Joint General Secretary Mahmuda Chowdhury, Professor Kaniz Morshed, Professor Nishi Kumar Kundu, students of Rangpur GTTC Alvi Esha and Maruf Mostafi also spoke.

Hasna Chowdhury discussed grievous impacts of all sorts of repression and violence against women and children, gender disparity, sexual harassment, violation, child marriage and other social curses.

The speakers put importance on creating awareness among every family member and engaging comprehensive efforts to ensure child rights and eliminate repression and violence against women and children for establishing gender equality.

They also narrated severe impacts of child marriage on the lives of premature girls and put emphasis on ensuring safety, security and equal rights of girl children for their normal growth and flourishing talents.

Advocate Munir said equal constitutional rights and security of all girl children must be ensured so that they could become worthy citizens to contribute to the social, political, economic and national arena of the country.

The chief guest stressed on preventing child marriage for ensuring normal growth of girl children and bringing an end to repression and violence against women and children to establish their equal rights, dignity and honour in the society.
