PM for combined effort to support disabled persons

DHAKA, Dec 4, 2018 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today urged local
and foreign organisations and the affluent section of society to extend their
helping hands for the welfare of the people with disabilities.

Urging support from local and foreign organisations and the affluent
section of the society she said, “We are working relentlessly to turn them as
human resources through providing all necessary facilities, including
education, healthcare and employment opportunities.”

The premier said in a message on the occasion of International Day of
Persons with Disabilities and National Disabled Day-2019 and inauguration of
the national complex ‘Subarna Bhaban’ for the disabled.

She appreciated the theme of the day, “The Future is Accessible” saying it
was time befitting and imperative to integrate people with disabilities with
the mainstream of development to ensure their empowerment.

She said the present government implemented various programmes since 2009
to link the disabled people with the mainstream development.

“We have already enacted Persons with Disabilities Rights and Protection
Act 2013, Neuro Developmental Disability Protection Trust Act, 2013,
Rehabilitation Council Act 2018, special education policy 2019 for disabled
people and established service centers to support the disabled person in our
country,” the premier added.
