Al Amin, Marzan, Antara win gold in SAGames karate

KATHMANDU, Dec 3, 2019 (BSS)- The Bangladesh athletes Al Amin, Marzan
Akter Priya and Humaira Akhter Antara have won three gold medals all in
karate events of the ongoing 13th South Asian Games (SA Games) on the third
day today at karate academy in Lalitpur here.

Al Amin won the first gold medal on the day for Bangladesh in 60-kg weight
category kumite event of karate beating his Pakistani rival Zafar by 7-3
points in the final.

After Al Amin, Marzan Akter Piya bagged the second gold medal of the day
for Bangladesh by defeating her Pakistani rival Kausar Sana by 4-3 points in
55-kg category of Women’s Kumite Karate event. On way to the final, she beat
Manish Chowdhury of Nepal by 2-1 points in the semifinal earlier on the day.

Later in the day, Humaira Akhter Antara, who had won the first medal of
the Games for Bangladesh on Monday, secured gold medal in 61-kg category of
kumite beating Anu Gurang of Nepal by 5-2 points in the final.

On Monday, Dipu Chakma, bagged the first gold medal for Bangladesh by
winning the taekwondo poomsae event 29-plus-year category.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s Mahfuzur Rahman got silver medal jointly with
Chethan Balasub of India as the athletes of both the countries cleared 2.16
meters in high jump in athletics.

Mahfuzur set a new national record, eclipsing his previous mark of 2.15
meters. Sarvesh Anil of India won gold in this event.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Omar Farooq has secured silver medal for Bangladesh
under the men’s category with 9.34 points.

Nepal has won two gold medals in this event. The gold medalists are Bijay
Sinjali of men’s category and Sushmita Tamang of women’s category.

On the other hand, Nur Bahar Begum of Bangladesh bagged bronze medal under
women’s category with 7.53 points.
