Subarna Bhaban to facilitate 600 challenged children: Nuruzzaman

DHAKA, Dec 3, 2019 (BSS) – Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed today
said the newly constructed complex ‘Subarna Bhaban’ will provide facilities
to 600 challenged children.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the complex
‘Subarna Bhaban’ on December 5, which will provide accommodation, education,
training and rehabilitation to 600 differently-abled children,” he said.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a press briefing, marking the
National Disability Day at the conference room of PID at Secretariat here
today.

State Minister of the Ministry Sharif Ahmed and Additional Secretary M
Ismail Hossain, among others, were present.

The Awami League-led government established National Disabled
Development Foundation in 1999, which has been working relentlessly to
improve the quality of life of differently-abled people, he said.

A total of 103 one-stop centres for autistic children have already been
introduced at 39 upazilas, he added.

Currently, 10 lakh people with various types of disabilities are getting
an allowance of Taka 700 per month from the government, he said.

There are 14 lakh people with disabilities in the country, he said
quoting a latest census.
