Mark O Donnell to coach Rangpur after Flower joins Sri Lanka team

DHAKA, Dec 3, 2019 (BSS) – Former Zimbabwe great Grant Flower who was
appointed as the head coach of Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BBPL)
team Rangpur Rangers, joined Sri Lankan team as a batting consultant, forcing
the side to replace him with New Zealand’s Mark O Donnell.

Flower was present during the players’ draft and had the big say in forming
the team. But he was in constant touch with Sri Lankan Cricket Board to take
the role of batting consultant.

“Before we appointed Grant Flower as our coach, he informed us that if he
gets any offer to work as batting consultant, he won’t work with us,” BCB
director Akram Khan, who is the director of Rangpur team, said here today.

“However he is appointed as the batting consultant of Sri Lankan team for
two years. So it’s better for him to work permanently with any team rather
than working with a BBPL side for one month. He was so apologetic for the
inconvenience.”

Akram said that Rangpur Rangers didn’t get any player apart from the draft
but they are trying to bring up a player who is playing in English County
team Somerset.

“We are trying for a player, whose name I can’t remember at this moment. He
is playing for Somerset though he is not a big name in World Cricket.”

Akram informed that apart from head coach Mark O Donnell, all of their
staffs in the team are local.

Donnell has worked as a coach in Auckland and also has the experience
coaching in T10 and also in the Abu Dhabi T20 league.

Meanwhile Rangpur roped in Pakistani batsman Ahmed Shehzad alongside the
foreign players like Mohammad Nabi, who will be the captain of the side.
Mustafizur Rahman, Naim Sheikh and Taskin Ahmed are the local stars for
Rangpur.
