Bringing all able couples under family planning progs underscored

GAIBANDHA, Dec 3, 2019 (BSS) – Speakers at a function here today
underscored the need for bringing all the able couples under the permanent
and long-term family planning programmes to keep the population growth under
control.

“An emphasis should be given to reduce maternal and infant mortality rate
anyhow for achieving the sustainable development goals by 2030 declared by
UNDP,” they said.

They made the comments while addressing an advocacy meeting on Family
Welfare Services and Publicity Week-2019 organised by Department of Family
Planning at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner (DC) here on Tuesday
in cooperation with district administration.

Deputy Director (DD) of Family Planning Department Saiful Islam presided
over the function while Sadar upazila family planning officer Mahabuba Khatun
moderated the ceremony.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-General) Alamgir Kabir Saikat
addressed the function as the chief guest on behalf of DC Abdul Matin while
Additional Police Superintendent Abdul Awal spoke as special guest.

The function was also addressed, among others, by Deputy Director of
Islamic Foundation, Bangladesh Azmal Haque, Medial Officer of Maternal and
Child Welfare Centre Dr Sekendar Ali, Medical Officer of Civil Surgeon Office
Dr. Al Mahmudul Alam and journalist Sarker Mohammad Shahiduzzaman.

Earlier, Assistant Director of the Family Planning Department Dr. Faruk
Azam Noor, in his presentation, said a total of 4,44,412 couples use the
contraceptive methods among 5,44,934 able couples in the district.

The chief guest stressed the need for brining all able families under the
family planning activities to build a happy and prosperous country through
active participation of all concerned.

He also emphasized for giving the top priority on motivating the fertile
couples of the remote areas including hard to reach char ones so that they
could control unwanted pregnancy through using the contraceptives.

Saiful Islam said a series of programmes would be chalked out to mark the
Family Welfare Services and Publicity Week-2019 in the district from December
7 to December 12.

He also thanked all for participating in the function and sought their
whole hearted cooperation to make the forthcoming Family Welfare Services and
Publicity Week in the district a grand success.

Besides, district level officials, family planning officials and staff and
NGO activists including the media men participated in the meeting.
