Winning start for Bangladesh in SA Games women’s T20

KATHMANDU, Dec 3, 2019 (BSS)- The Bangladesh women’s cricket team got off
to a flying start in the ongoing SA Games women’s T20 cricket crushing Sri
Lanka women’s cricket team by seven wickets on Tuesday at Pokhara Stadium in
Pokhara.

Invited to bat first by Bangladesh, Sri Lanka rode on opener Umesha
Thimashini, who hammered a polished 56 runs off 49-ball, and scored a
competitive total of 122 for 6 from their allotted 20 overs.

Skipper Madavi with 33 and Sandeepani with 12 were the other notable
scorers for Sri Lanka.

Nahida Akter, the wrecker in chief, caused the major damage as she grabbed
four Sri Lankan wickets conceding 4 for 32 while Jahanara Alam took 1 for 22.

In reply, Bangladesh hardly had to sweat as they comfortably reached home
by making 126 for the loss of three wickets with nine balls to spare.

Sanjida Islam, led from the front with an impressive unbeaten 45-ball off
51 runs with the help of eight boundaries and also paired a 53-run for the
second wicket stand with Ayasha Rahman (29) after Bangladesh lost their
opener Murshida Khatun early in the chase. Later, she completed the chase
along with Fargana Haque who remained unbeaten on 23.

Tharika Sewwandi, Nisansala and Thimashini all shared three Bangladesh’s
wickets.

Sanjida Islam was named the player of the match for her impressive batting
performance.

The Tigresses will play their second match with hosts Nepal and the
Maldives on December 4 and 5 respectively at the same venue.
