DHAKA, Dec 2, 2019 (BSS) – CHT Affairs Minister Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing
today urged all to play role for implementation of Chittagong Hill Tracts
(CHT) Peace Accord saying that communal harmony and peace are prevailing in
the CHT region.

“Massive development has taken place in the communication sector of the
three hill districts after signing of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Peace
Accord … farmers are getting fare price of their crops,” he said at a
discussion marking the completion of 22 years of the CHT Peace Accord at his
secretariat conference room here.

“The present government is implementing various development projects in
the hill districts,” he said, adding that peace accord is expediting
socioeconomic and cultural development of the people in CHT region.

Secretary of CHT Affairs Ministry Md Mesbahul Islam chaired the discussion
while FAO representative in Bangladesh Robert D Simpson and other senior
officials of the ministry took part it.

The accord was signed on December 2, 1997 between the government and the
Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samiti (PCJSS) during the first tenure of
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, ending bloody conflicts in the three hill
districts.

The then Jatiya Sangsad Chief Whip Abul Hasnat Abdullah signed the
agreement on behalf of the government while Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma
(Santu Larma) signed it on behalf of PCJSS.
