Govt working with KSA for women workers’ safety

DHAKA, Dec 2, 2019 (BSS) – Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Secretary Mohammad Selim Reza today said the government is working with Saudi Arabia to ensure safety of women workers.

“The government is working to ensure women workers safety in the Saudi Arabia… and a third joint technical committee meeting between the Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry of Bangladesh and Labour and Social Welfare Ministry of the Saudi Arabia was held in Riyadh on November 27”, he told a press conference here.

The women workers, particularly those working as domestic help in Saudi Arabia, are widely being reported to be in trouble, he said, adding that “now the two nations will help each other to ensure security of the women workers”.

He said the workers themselves would have to inform the Bangladeshi Embassy in Saudi Arabia if they shift their duty place.

Joint Secretary of the Ministry Mohammad Zahid Hossain read out a written speech of the Secretary at the press conference focusing on the government initiatives to ensure the safety of women workers abroad.

The joint committee in its meeting decided that the concerned recruiting agencies will have to provide all the particulars of the women workers including their local and Saudi recruiting agencies’ detailed addresses and information of the concerned employer in Saudi Arabia to the Bangladeshi Embassy in Saudi Arabia, said the official.

The women workers who already have left their duty place would never be handed over to her employer again if they are rescued by the police, he said citing the decision of the meeting.

The Saudi government will take necessary action if there is any allegation from the affected workers, he added.
