Lawyers’ role is crucial in protecting people’s right: Speaker

RANGPUR, Dec 02, 2019 (BSS) – Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin
Chaudhury has said the lawyers’ role is very crucial in protecting people’s
right as she addressed Rangpur District Lawyers’ Association (RDLA)’s annual
dinner and a function for scholarship distribution among lawyers’ brilliant
children.

“Lawyers are social architects. They should work sincerely in ensuring
people’s rights and establishing justice in the society,” she said at the
function held at RDLA auditorium here on Sunday night as the chief guest.

RDLA organised the function with its president Advocate Abdul Malek in the
chair.

Senior District and Sessions Judge Begum Rasheda Sultana, Judge of Rangpur
Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 Md. Zabid Hossain, Judge
of Rangpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 Md.
Rokunuzzaman, Chief Judicial Magistrate of Rangpur Md. Haider Ali, Rangpur
Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan, Superintendent of Police Biplob Kumar
Sarker and General Secretary of RDLA Advocate Md. Abdul Haque Pramanik
addressed as special guests.

In her pre-dinner speech, the Speaker said the Bangalee nation has
achieved the flag with red and green colours and independence through the 23-
year long struggles and movements of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman.

“Bangabandhu has gifted one of the best constitutions of the world to the
nation. This constitution preserves the fundamental rights of the people,”
she said, and called upon all lawyers of the country to uphold the
constitution.

Later, Dr. Shirin distributed scholarship among the talented children of
the lawyers for their brilliant results in different public examinations.

Leaders and Members of RDLA, leaders of the Rangpur district unit of Awami
League, its associate bodies and dignitaries of the city were present on the
occasion.
