Three committees formed to keep rice market stable

DHAKA Dec 01, 2019 (BSS) – The Food Ministry today formed three committees, consisting of three members each, and set up a control room to monitor rice markets and keep prices of the principal staple food stable.

The ministry has taken various initiatives, including holding meetings with rice traders and mill owners, to keep the rice prices at a tolerable level, said an official release here.

Formation of the three committees and setting up of the control room are the continuation of the government efforts to control rice prices, it said.

The people can provide information or lodge any rice market-related complaint to the control room over phone (029540027, 01642967727), it added.

The committees have been tasked to monitor wholesale rice markets in the city and collect information on rice and flour prices, prepare reports on the prices comparing to the previous two days market prices and submit the report to the Food Ministry and Directorate General of Food.

The committees will visit three markets everyday while they are asked to continue their market monitoring until further notice, the release said.

The government decided to include the deputy commissioners (DCs) in the market monitoring programme while district and upazila levels officials of the Directorate General of Food have been asked to join the market monitoring programme and continue communication with the control room round the clock, it added.
