Smart livestock village inaugurated in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Dec 1, 2019 (BSS)- Activity of ‘Smart Livestock Village’ has
been inaugurated in a village of the district formally for the first time in
the country yesterday aimed at reaching all sorts of livestock services to
each of the villagers in package system.

This was launched at Chandpur village under Mougachhi Union Parishad of
Mohanpur Upazila on behalf of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) to
mark the Mujib Barsha- birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Livestock and poultry farming demonstration and projection, biogas
plant, demonstration of organic fertilizer generation through compost method
and vermin-compost, stage system goat rearing and poultry birds rearing
through organic method are the salient features of the smart livestock
village.

Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Kazi
Washi Uddin and Divisional Deputy Director of DLS Kolyan Kumar Fouzder
attended and addressed the programme as chief and special guests respectively
with Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sanwar Hossain in the chair.

District Livestock Officers Dr Humayun Kabir, Dr Al Mamun Mondal and Dr
Mustafizur Rahman, Assistant Director (Animal Production) Dr Ismail Haque and
Union Parishad Chairman Al Amin Biswash also spoke on the occasion.

Detailing the aspects of the village Kolyan Kumar Fouzder told the
meeting that similar type of village will be launched in all other villages
of 66 Upazilas of eight districts in the division in order to produce safe
and secure milk, egg and meat like animal proteins after the farmers-level
best uses of modern technologies.

The initiative will contribute a lot towards livestock expansion and
rural nutrition improvement side by side with achieving the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

Office decoration and information display, digital information database,
online reporting, digital attendance and installation of closed circuit
camera are the main activities of the initiative.

Chief Guest Kazi Washi Uddin urged all the officials concerned and other
stakeholders to discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty to
supplement the government efforts of achieving the SDGs within the stipulated
time.

Appreciating the effort he expected the smart livestock concept will be
replicated to all upazilas throughout the country within the near future that
will contribute a lot towards boosting the country’s livestock production
through reaching the digital services and modern technologies to the
grassroots farmers.

He also said the role of livestock sector is immense towards ensuring
food security along with meeting up the existing protein deficiency through
boosting milk, meat and egg production.
