Two suspected criminals killed in Satkhira ‘gunfight’
SATKHIRA, Nov 30, 2019 (BSS) – Two suspected criminals were killed in a
‘gunfight’ with police in Kamal Nagar area near the Bypass road in the town
on early today.
The deceased were identified as Mamunul Islam Dwip, 25, son of Moinul
Islam of Munjitpur under Satkhira town and Saiful Islam, 38, son of Abur
Sobur Sarder of Saihati village under Kaliganj upazila of the district.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Detective Branch (DB) of police Muhidul Haq said
a team of the DB police arrested Dwip and Saiful on Friday over snatching of
Taka 26 lakh from a bKash company agent in Kaliganj upazila on October 31.
As per their confessional statement, police took them to recover the
money. When they reached in Kamal Nagar area around 4am, associates of the
criminals opened fire at the law enforcers and tried to snatch the duo.
“In response, the team also shot fires, triggering the gunfight,” the OC
said, adding that Dwip and Saifur came in the line of fire and died on the
spot.
Besides, two firearms, four bullets, two knives and a motorbike without
number plate were recovered from the spot, he said.
The bodies were sent to Satkhira Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
