Hasan terms BNP’s threat for movement ‘ridiculous’

DHAKA, Nov 29, 2019 (BSS) – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today
said the conventional threat of BNP over waging a movement against the
government has become a ridiculous one.

“BNP leaders issued threat of waging movement many times in the last 10
years. They do not abide by laws and even do not expect the verdict of
courts,” he said while addressing the inaugural session of the two-day
national career fair-2019 at North South University in the capital.

Speaking as the chief guest, Hasan said the release of BNP chairperson
Khaleda Zia is a matter of court.

If the court grants her bail, Khaleda would be released, and there is no
alternative to it, he said.

Hasan, also Awami League publicity and publication secretary, said the
country’s judiciary is now totally independent, but it was not independent
during the era of BNP.

As the judiciary is enjoying full freedom, many lawmakers and leaders of
ruling Awami League have already landed in jail, he said.

Highlighting the overall success of the AL government, Hasan said Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, is the architect of Bangladesh’s development.

Noting that Bangladesh witnessed a tremendous development in the last 10
years, he said Bangladesh is now a role model of development across the
world.

The information minister said building a developed nation is an urgent to
build a developed country and Bangladesh is marching forward under the
dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“Bangladesh has achieved sufficiency in food…the country has already
attained the status of a middle income state. It will be a digital country by
2021 and a developed one by 2041. And the government is working sincerely to
achieve the goals,” he said.

Mentioning that education is the backbone of a nation, Hasan said the young
generation is the tool of the country and they must be built with proper
education as they will lead the country in the future.

Chaired by North South University Vice-Chancellor Prof Atique Islam, the
inaugural session of the fair was addressed, among others, by University
Grants Commission chairman Prof Dr Kazi Shahidullah and North South
University chairman Benajir Ahmed.

Later, Dr Hasan formally inaugurated the career fair.
