JS speaker for economic empowerment of women

DHAKA, Nov 29, 2019 (BSS) – Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today underscored the need for making smooth the way of economic empowerment of women to achieve the ultimate development of the country.

“We will have to take forward women through inclusive development and inclusive growth. Due to the initiatives of the government, grassroots women are becoming self-reliant,” she said, speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural session of a two-day programme at the Gulshan Youth Club in the city, said a press release.

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) organised the programme on “16 Days Activism Campaign-2019”.

DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam presided over the programme while Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Post Tele Communication and Information Technology AKM Rahmatullah was present as the special guest.

DNCC Chief Executive Officer Md Abdul Hai delivered the welcome speech.

Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said Bangladesh has become a bright example for women empowerment.

“Today, the opportunity of higher education for women has increased as the government has taken various initiatives, including offering scholarship and forming the Prime Minister’s Education Assistance Trust,” she added.

“Participation of women in all sectors is increasing. Women are keeping signature in all sectors, including knowledge, skills and capability,” she said.

The country’s legal framework against repression of women is very strong, the speaker said, adding the violence against women will reduce through effective enforcement of the law.
