7 to die for MP Liton’s murder
GAIBANDHA, Nov 28, 2019 (BSS) – A court here today sentenced seven people, including former Jatiya Party lawmaker Dr Col (retd) Abdul Kader Khan, to death in a case lodged over murder of Gaibandha-1 MP Manzurul Islam Liton.
The other death-row-convicts are- Kader’s private secretary Shamsuzzoha, driver Hannan, nephew Mehedi, Shahin, Rana and Chandan Kumar Roy. Of the seven, Roy is yet to be arrested.
District and Sessions Judge Dilip Kumar Bhoumik pronounced the judgment in a crowded courtroom in presence of the six of the accused.
According to the case documents, unidentified assailants shot then Gaibandha-1 lawmaker Monjurul Islam Liton in his village home in Sundarganj upazila in Gaibandha on December 31, 2016. Later, he succumbed to his injuries at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Liton’s elder sister Fahmida Kakoli Bulbul filed the murder case against five to six unnamed people with Sundarganj Police Station.
Police on February 21 in 2017, arrested Kader, a former lawmaker of the same constituency, from his Bogura residence.
On April 30 in 2017, police submitted charge sheet against eight people, including Kader in the case. The court on different occasions examined 50 prosecution witnesses and on November 19 set today to pronounce judgment.
