RCC intends to generate fuel, biogas and manure from garbage

RAJSHAHI, Nov 28, 2019 (BSS) – Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) is
intended to generate fuel, biogas and organic fertilizer from household waste
and other garbage after the best uses of modern technologies.

To this end, the city corporation has adopted a project and signed a
memorandum of understanding (MoU) with an American company- West Technology
LLC Limited on December 5 last year to implement the project successfully.

In this regard a meeting was held to review progress of the project at
the city bhaban conference hall here yesterday.

Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton accompanied by Chief Executive Officer Abu
Hayat Rahmatullah, Executive Engineer Reajat Hossain and Chief Conservation
Officer Sheikh Mamun took part in the meeting on behalf of the city
corporation while West Limited Technology Chairman Dr Moin Uddin Sarker and
its Bangladesh Head Dr Anjuman Shelly attended on behalf of the company.

After a fruitful discussion on the issue the meeting decided that a
final contact is expected to be signed between the two sides in light of the
MoU in December next.

Mayor Liton said if the project was implemented successfully it will set
an instance. The environment will be protected from polythene and waste in
one hand and many useful items will be produced on the other hand. As a
whole, the city corporation will be benefited, Liton added.

He also hoped that Rajshahi will be the role model of new industry upon
successful implementation of the project by the next two and a half years.

He said the existing polythene waste has become a threat to the public
health. So, the venture will be very much effective towards protecting the
environment from further degradation caused by polythene waste.

Liton said the city corporation will extend all possible support for a
successful implementation of the project. According to the signed agreement,
RCC will provide land and supply garbage and wastes.

Dr Moin Uddin told the meeting that one litre diesel can be produced
from polythene waste at a cost of only Taka 25 in Bangladesh perspective.

He added that in the present world context, polythene is a serious
threat to the environment. But, the wastes can be used for the country’s
prosperity through a proper processing.

Bangladeshi-born American scientist Dr Moin Uddin is the technology
innovator of manufacturing fuel and fertilizer from polythene waste.
