Public-private collaboration for achieving dev targets stressed

DHAKA, Nov 27, 2019 (BSS) – Policymakers at a meeting here today sought public-private collaboration for achieving development targets set by the government.

The 13th Private Sector Development Policy Coordination Committee (PSDPCC) meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) here with Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Md Nojibur Rahman in the chair.

Business Initiative Leading Development (BUILD) and the PMO jointly arranged the meeting, a BUILD press release said.

Speaking at the meeting, Nojibur Rahman said the government has given top priority on ensuring access to energy for all and sustainable and renewable energy.

Appreciating the role of BUILD for coming up with specific suggestions on promoting renewable energy, he said specific issue-based working groups could be formed involving concerned government organisations and private sector for taking consolidated implementable decisions in solar energy, e-commerce and other areas.

President of e-CAB Shami Kaiser highlighted the importance on upcoming policies and required infrastructure for supporting cross-border trade in e-commerce.

Obaidul Azam, additional secretary of the Commerce Ministry, stressed the need for setting up a cell for electronic commerce under the ministry with participation of relevant stakeholders.

BUILD Chairman Mahbubul Alam said this platform (PSDPCC) is the best example for acting as the united voice of the private sector to ensure that the major issues impeding the development of the private sector are addressed in a meaningful way with an emphasis on private sector.

Asif Ibrahim, founder chairman of BUILD, informed that the RMG Park in Mirersarai should receive gas connection and other necessary infrastructures for expeditious establishment of industries.

The meeting was attended by secretaries from different ministries including PMO, representatives from BEZA, MoEFCC, BIDA, Road Transport Division, Bridges Division, DoE, Bangladesh Bank, SREDA, NBR, the Ministry of Commerce, ICTSD, DEDO, A2I ICT Division, Finance Division, PPP Office, and private sector leaders from FBCCI, BGMEA, DCCI, FICCI, e-CAB and BPGMEA.
