DHAKA, Nov 27, 2019 (BSS) – The USA today termed Holey Artisan trial as a
landmark case for Bangladesh and pledged for continuing support to Dhaka in
its fight against terrorism.
“We remain committed to continuing to support Bangladesh in its fight
against terrorism, especially in our shared efforts to improve rule of law,”
said a US statement received from the US embassy here.
Saying that the US is honoured for assisting Bangladesh government
throughout the investigation of the attack, the statement said the United
States notes the conclusion of the trial that “represents a landmark case for
Bangladesh”.
“Today’s verdict gives some closure to the families of those who suffered
from the brutal murders committed that day,” it said.
The US renewed its deepest condolences to the loved ones of the civilians
slain and Bangladeshi law enforcement officials who were killed or injured
responding to this contemptible terrorist attack, said the statement.
A special tribunal here today sentenced seven out of total eight accused
to death in a case lodged over horrific militant attack on the capital’s
Holey Artisan Bakery in 2016, that claimed lives of 20 innocent people, most
of them foreigners.
