Bourses extend gaining streak with higher turnover

DHAKA, Nov 27, 2019 (BSS) – Country’s premier bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange
(DSE) today ended in marginally higher note amid choppy trading as the
investors were active on both sides of the trading fence throughout the day.

The market started with buoyancy, but the risk-averse investors prompted
to take capital gain after the first half of the session especially from
financial institutions, pharma, food and general insurance sectors which
pushed down the prime index.

However, the active presence of the bargain hunters on telecom, cement and
fuel and power sectors’ stocks helped the index to close 8 points higher over
the last session.

The broad index, DSEX closed at 4730.34 points on Wednesday with a gain of
8.04 points or 0.17 percent.

Besides, the two selective indices, Blue Chip index, DSE30 and the Shariah
index, DSES went up by 11.53 points and 6.73 points to settle at 1646.33
points and 1081.97 points respectively.

Investor’s participation remained almost same over the last session. Top
gainer and loser lists were mostly dominated by ‘Z category’ stocks.

Top ten traded stocks captured around 27.8% of the day’s total turnover
where LafargeHolcim Bangladesh topped the list with 7.9% of total turnover.

On the DSE trading floor, a total number of 150,229 trades were executed
in today’s trading session with a trading volume of 215.78 million
securities.

But, loser took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 349 issues traded,
118 securities gained price while 189 declined and 42 remained unchanged.

Most of the sectors witnessed correction today. Among the major sectors
based on market capitalization – financial institutions (-0.4%), pharma (-
0.3%), food (-0.3%) and general insurance (-1.9%) sectors witnessed price
correction while telecom (4.3%), cement (5.7%) and fuel & power (0.6%)
sectors achieved price appreciation, according to market operator,
International Leasing Securities.

It added that the investors’ activity was mostly centered on pharma
(14.7%), textile (12.5%) and bank (10.5%) sectors.

The top 10 gainers were LafargeHolcim Bangladesh, Zaheen Spinning, Dorin
Power, Tosrifa Industries, Exim Bank First Mutual Fund, Dragon Sweater,
Saiham Textile, Sea Pearl Beach Resort, Grameenphone and IBC Employees
Provident Mutual Fund 1 Scheme 1.

LafargeHolcim Bangladesh topped the turnover chart followed by Square
Pharma, Sonarbangla Insurance, Fortune Shoes, Beximco Pharma, Shurwid
Industries, Stylecraft, Dorin Power, Lankabangla Finance and City Bank.

The top 10 losers were – Nahee Aluminum, Sonarbangla Insurance, Legacy
Footwear, Al-haj Tex, Dulamia Cotton, Mozaffar Hossain Spinning Mills, United
Air, Ambee Pharma, Khan Brothers’ PP and Meghna Petroleum.

On the other hand, the port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)
closed at green maintaining the winning streak of the previous day.

CSCX and CASPI went up by 38.42 points and 65.76 points to stand at
8735.39 points and 14380.59 points respectively.

At CSE, a total of 12,081,811 shares and mutual fund of 245 companies were
traded, of which 109 issues advanced while 111 declined and 25 issues
remained unchanged.
