Govt to install optical fiber network in 772 remote unions

DHAKA, Nov 27, 2019 (BSS) – The government is going to install optical fiber networks in 772 hard-to-reach unions under eight divisions of the country under the ‘Installation of the Information Technology Network in Hard-to-Reach Area (Connected Bangladesh)’ project.

In this regard, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) and the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) today approved the proposal of the installation of 8,106 kilometers optical fiber cables with a cost of Taka 110.73 crore.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal presided over the meetings.

Briefing the reporters after the meeting, Kamal said Bangladesh Cable Industry Limited, Khulna will procure the optical fiber cables through the direct procurement method (DPM).

The ‘Installation of the Information Technology Network in Hard-to-Reach Area (Connected Bangladesh)’ project got approval from the Social Responsibility Fund Management Committee on July 10, 2018.

Information and Communication Technology Division is implementing the project with a cost of Taka 47,607.10 lakh from July 2018 to December 2019.
