Handball teams leave for Nepal on Sunday

DHAKA, Nov 27, 2019 (BSS)- A 40-member Bangladesh men’s and women’s handball teams will leave for Nepal on Sunday (December 1) to take part in the 13th South Asian Games scheduled to be held in Kathmandu and Pokhara from December 1-10.

Sohel Rana and Shilpi Akter will lead the SA Games bound Bangladesh man’s and woman’s handball teams respectively. Bangladesh handball teams will start their SA Games campaign on December 4, three days after the start of South Asian biggest extravaganza.

All the men’s and women’s group matches will be held at National Sports Council in Pokhara. This time six countries will compete in handball. The grouping and fixture of the games already have been finalized.

Bangladesh men’s handball team is placed in pool A along with India and the Maldives while the pool B consists with Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka. On the other hand, Bangladesh women’s handball team pitted in group B along with Nepal and Sri Lanka while the Pool A consist with India , Pakistan and the Maldives.

Bangladesh men’s and women’s handball teams will start their campaign when they will face India and Nepal respectively on December 4. On the following day (December 5) men’s handball team will meet the Maldives while women’s handball team take on Sri Lanka on December 6 in their respective group last matches.

Both the semifinals will be held on December 7 while the finals are slated on December 9 following the third place and fourth place deciding matches.

The Bangladesh women’s and man’s handball teams won silver and bronze medals respectively in the last edition.
