DHAKA, Nov 27, 2019 (BSS) – Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs
Minister Anisul Huq today said he is satisfied with the proceedings and
finally the judgement in Holey Artisan Bakery attack case.

“I think through this judgement, we have been able to prove that we can
hold swift trial of such a heinous killing by completing all the formalities
as soon as possible,” he said at a press briefing held at the ministry after
the judgement in the case this afternoon.

“There were a total of 21 accused in the case. Of those 21, five were
killed on that day in commando operation and eight more were killed in
encounters with law enforcing agencies in different raids. Of the remaining
eight, seven have been sentenced to death today and one was acquitted,”
Anisul said.

Expressing his happiness over the judgement, the law minister said one
of the reasons of his satisfaction is that it is being able to complete trial
of such sensational cases, which have made blows at the root of our nation.

“As you all probably know after the death sentence, the documents will
go to High Court division as death reference and I would look into holding
the hearing swiftly by preparing paper book of the case in shortest possible
time,” he added.

While replying a question on how a convict managed to wear a cap of IS
in police custody, the law minister said he would take initiative to probe
the incident right after the end of this press briefing.

Dhaka Anti-terrorism Special Tribunal early today sentenced seven
accused to death and acquitted another one in the case filed over the
barbaric killing that took place at upscale Holey Artisan Cafe, in capital’s
Gulshan area on July 1, 2016.
