RAJSHAHI, Nov 27, 2019 (BSS) – A total of 60,519 people from all eight
districts under Rajshahi divisions have got overseas employment in 2018 and
31,076 others availed the same opportunities in the current year till October
last.
Various time-fitting measures have been taken to enhance the number of
overseas employment as per the Prime Minister’s election manifesto of
arranging overseas employment for 1,000 skilled workers from every upazila
every year on an average.
This was revealed in a press briefing and seminar titled “Competence and
Awareness for Overseas Employment” at conference hall of Deputy
Commissioner’s office here today.
Commissioner Office of Rajshahi Division organized the programme in
association with the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment.
Chaired by Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Humayun Kabir Khondoker,
Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas
Employment Shafiqul Islam gave an overview of the present overseas employment
and its achievements in his keynote presentation.
He said more than 1.28 crore Bangladeshi expatriates are engaged in
overseas employment in 168 countries at present.
Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police AKM Hafiz Akter,
Additional Divisional Commissioner Zakir Hossain, Additional Commissioner of
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Salma Begum and Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi
Hamidul Haque also spoke.
Shafiqul Islam said vision of his ministry is to elevate socio-economic
condition of the country through overseas employment together with ensuring
welfare and rights of the Bangladeshi expatriates. Massive scopes of
employment both at home and abroad has been created through imparting
training to the workers in 70 technical training centres in the country at
present.
Divisional Commissioner Humayun Kabir Khondoker said awareness and
competence is very important for safe, disciplined, regular and responsive
migration and urged the media people to extend their whole-hearted
cooperation to attain the cherished goal.
