Gokulpur community clinic earns confidence of rural people

RANGPUR, Nov 25, 2019 (BSS) – Gokulpur Community Clinic (GCC) has earned
a solid confidence of rural people by providing treatments of common ailments
with cost-free medicines in last five years.

Around 40 people of all ages are daily visiting the clinic located in
Haridebpur union of Sadar upazila in Rangpur district to get treatments and
medicines.

Along with providing treatments of common ailments and medicines, well-
trained Community Health Care Provider (CHCP) Nazma Khatun also conducts safe
deliveries of pregnant mothers successfully at GCC during the past five
years.

Talking to BSS, Nazma Khatun, also a Community Skilled Birth Attendant
(CSBA), said the number of visitors increases due to proximity of the clinic
with provision of free medicines for common ailments.

“Some 14,500 patients are receiving health services and medicines there
free of costs annually with around 40 patients a day on an average since
2015,” said Nazma.

In addition to conducting safe deliveries, Nazma is providing health
services fro common ailments to common people, including under-five babies,
children, adolescents, men and women at the clinic.

“Currently, 22 pregnant mothers are undergoing regular check ups at the
clinic,” she said and hoped that they would deliver babies safely there in
the near future.

On last Saturday, Nazma conducted normal delivery of pregnant mother
Kakoli Begum, 20, of village Gonjipur after conducting safe delivery of
pregnant mother Pervin of village Mulapara few days back.

“Kakoli and Pervin gave birth to a male baby and a female baby
respectively safely at my clinic,” a happier Nazma said.

After carrying out regular check up of first time pregnant mother
Rokeya, 18, of village Mandalpara today at GCC, Nazma said she provided
medicines and suggestions for safe pregnancy to the patient.

She also checked up pregnant mothers Sumaiya, 25, of village Mandalpara
Gokulpur, Laizu, 27, of village Dhanipara and Konica Rani, 25, of village
Aloyakuri and provided medicines and suggested them today for conducting
regular check ups.

Talking to BSS at GCC, Noor Banu, 45, of village Mandalpara, Arjina, 42,
of village Chawrapara, Sumitra, 28 and Momena, 18, of village Aloyakuri and
Shahinur, 22, of village Mohadebpur said they came there today for treatment
of their ailments.

Nazma checked up them, provided medicines, explained proper dosages and
advised them accordingly when some 25 other patients, including children,
adolescents, men and women, were waiting outside the clinic this noon.

Talking to BSS outside GCC, mothers Shilpi, 23, and Zannati, 24, of
village Chawrapara said that they gave birth to their respective sons Saimum
and Zisan there safely two years back and came there today for treatments of
their sons suffering from fever.

Civil Surgeon Dr. Hirombo Kumar Roy said a trained CHCP, one Health
Assistant and one Family Welfare Assistant, all are trained CSBAs, are
working at each of all 309 community clinics in the district.

The clinics are providing services on common ailments, maternal and
neonatal healthcare, childhood illness, reproductive health, family planning,
health and nutritional education, micro-nutrient supplements and establishing
referral linkage with higher facilities.

Besides, the CHCPs are referring autistic children and children with
special needs to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for specialised treatment
to flourish their latent talents.

“Like many other community clinics, Gokulpur Community Clinic has set up
a glaring example in providing health services and medicines to people at
their doorsteps in the district,” Dr. Roy added.
