Govt considering to bring more educational institutions under MPO

DHAKA, Nov 24, 2019 (BSS) – The government is considering to bring more
eligible educational institutions under the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) facility
in the current fiscal as it would have some surplus fund after meeting the
expenditure of the newly MPO-enlisted institutions under fiscal 2019-20.

The information was revealed at the 7th meeting of the Parliamentary
Standing Committee on Ministry of Education held at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS)
Bhaban with committee chairman Md Afsarul Amin in the chair, said a press
release.

The meeting was informed that the Finance Division has given an
allocation of Taka 865 crore for MPO scheme and the ministry included 1,658
educational institutions under the scheme in fiscal 2019-20.

About Taka 456.32 crore will be required annually for meeting the
expenditure of the newly MPO-enlisted institutions. As the ministry has a
surplus amount of Taka 408.67 crore, some more qualified educational
institutions can be brought under the MPO facility after scrutiny in the
current fiscal, the release said.

The parliamentary watchdog held discussion on the quality of education
and the education ministry’s plans to achieve the Sustainable Development
Goal-4 (SDG-4), it added.

Committee members Deputy Minister of Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury,
Md Abdul Quddus, Fazle Hossain Badsha, Md Abdus Sobhan Mia and Mahi
Badruddoza Chowdhury attended the meeting.
