Underprivileged children not burden of society: Speakers

DHAKA, Nov 24, 2019 (BSS) – Viewing underprivileged children as not burden of the society, speakers at a function here today urged both the government and the non-government organizations to work in a cohesive manner for ensuring all fundamentals rights and other necessities for them.

“Underprivileged children are not burden of the society. They have rights to grow up in safer places,” said Professor Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, former governor of Bangladesh Bank and chief advisor of East West University (EWU).

Brighter Tomorrow Foundation (BTF), an organization working for suicide prevention, in association with Sociology Club of EWU arranged the daylong function on the EWU campus.

The programmes included drawing competition and winter clothes distribution.

Chaired by BTF President Joysree Zaman, the function was attended by its general secretary Farshid Bhuiyan, EWU teacher Dr Anisur Rahman, Senior Vice-President (Operations) of Beacon Point Md Hanif, Inner Wheel Club, Dhaka North-West President Sajeda Akhter, Rotarians Laila Rosy and Tahmina Hafiz, among others.

A total of 57 underprivileged children of ‘East West Bidya Niketon’ joined the programme.

The speakers underscored the need for making concerted efforts by government and non-government organizations to ensure quality education for the underprivileged children.

Joysree Zaman urged the teachers and guardians to be careful about mental health of children to enable them to grow up in a congenial atmosphere.

Later, the underprivileged children were given awards in the competition.
