President for fair, academic-friendly environment on campus
DHAKA, Nov 24, 2019 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today asked the Dhaka University authorities to take necessary measures to ensure a fair and academic-friendly environmental on the campus.
“Take necessary steps to ensure a fair and academic-friendly environment on the campus apart from the regular academic activities,” the President said as DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman called on him at Bangabhaban here this afternoon.
President’s Press Secretary Mohammad Joynal Abedin told BSS after the meeting.
Noting that the Dhaka University is country’s highest seat of learning with academic excellence, Abdul Hamid directed the DU authorities to give special emphasis on its environmental development.
The head of the state stressed the need for taking an integrated initiative to build students as worthy citizens engaging them in various social, cultural and science-based activities.
The DU VC apprised the President, also the chancellor of the university, of overall activities, including the development plans, of the university.
“Besides, the President was informed about Dhaka University’s preparations for celebrating the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” he said.
The VC also informed the President about the preparations of holding the upcoming 52nd Dhaka University convocation, where some 20,800 graduates will be conferred the degree.
President Hamid was also told about arrangement of an international seminar scheduled to be held on Dhaka University campus next year.
Over 100 scientists from home and abroad are expected to take part in the seminar entitled “Climate Change and Food Security”.
Earlier, a delegation of physicians led by Prof Dr Arup Raton Choudhury, founder president of the Association For the Prevention of Drug Abuse (MANAS), paid a courtesy call on the President at Bangabhaban here.
The press secretary told BSS that the delegation, during the meeting, apprised the President of overall activities of MANAS.
Giving a patient hearing to them, Abdul Hamid lauded the activities of the MANAS and urged all concerned, including different political, socio-cultural organizations and guardians to play active roles against the drug abuse, simultaneously with the government.
