DHAKA, Nov 24, 2019 (BSS) – State-owned Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) has completed laying down 3,000 km fiber optic cable nationwide for Robi.

Besides, mobile phone operator Robi has started using this connectivity to bolster its 4.5G network as per an agreement, said a press release.

BTCL and Robi had signed a long-term fiber lease agreement in 2017. And within two years, BTCL has successfully completed the connectivity of this large scale fiber optic cable for Robi.

Hailing this as a major milestone in Public-Private Partnership in the country, BTCL and Robi have recently celebrated this achievement at BTCL’s head office in the capital’s Eskaton Garden Area.

BTCL’s Managing Director, Dr. Md. Rafiqul Matin said, “We all understand fiber optic cable is the most essential component of implementing Digital Bangladesh and this milestone has demonstrated the capability of BTCL in ensuring reliable fiber optic transmission network infrastructure.”

Robi’s CCRO, Shahed Alam said, “BTCL has done an amazing job in connecting 3,000 kilometers fiber by efficiently laying last mile optical fiber in such a short period of time, and we have no doubt that this will encourage the private sector to work with BTCL for enhancing their telecommunication infrastructure, just like us.”
