43 gold bars worth Tk 2.5 cr seized at HSIA

DHAKA, Nov 23, 2019 (BSS) – Dhaka Customs House in separate drives
seized 43 gold bars worth about Taka 2.5 crore and detained two people
involved with gold smuggling from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport
(HSIA) in the city.

On a tip-off, a preventive team of Dhaka Customs House raided BG-048
flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, which landed at the HSIA from Dubai at
6.10 am today, and recovered 40 gold bars weighing 4.640 kilogram worth Taka
2.32 crore, Assistant Commissioner of the Dhaka Customs House Md Sajjad
Hossain confirmed this.

The Biman was seized and legal action was taken as per customs rules in
this regard, he said.

Besides, members of the Customs House arrested customer service
assistant of a private airlines US Bangla Omor Faruque and a passenger of the
Flight BG-0040 Md Mamun Mia, who came from Riyadh, while they were trying to
smuggle three gold bars worth Taka 17.40 lakh on Friday afternoon.

Legal action has also been taken against them in this regard, said Md
