Gold futures settle unchanged but fall weekly

CHICAGO, Nov. 23, 2019 (BSS/Xinhua) – Gold futures on the COMEX division of
the New York Mercantile Exchange settled unchanged on Friday but suffered
moderate losses on a weekly basis.

The most active gold contract for December delivery closed at 1,463.60 U.S.
dollars per ounce, or 0.33 percent lower weekly.

In the ensuing electronic trading, gold traded in negative territory as
equities rose and the U.S. dollar firmed.

All the New York stock benchmarks, including the Dow Jones Industrial
Average, S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite Index posted moderate gains on Friday.

The U.S. dollar index, a gauge of the greenback against a basket of other
major currencies, rose well above 98.20.

When equities rise and the dollar strengthens, safe-haven gold usually
loses support.

As for other precious metals, silver for December delivery went down 6.5
cents, or 0.38 percent, to close at 17.00 dollars per ounce. Platinum for
January delivery decreased 24.90 dollars, or 2.71 percent, to settle at
892.60 dollars per ounce.
