Bangladesh reaches 73-6 at supper break

KOLKATA, Nov 21, 2019 (BSS)- Bangladesh yet again failed to show the
required patience to deal with the red-hot Indian pace attack as they reached
73-6 at the supper break on the opening day of the second Test at Eden
Gardens in Kolkata on Friday.

The situation worsened, when Liton Das, who was the only batsman to take
Indian pacers with precision, was retired hurt following a blow off Mohammed
Shami’s delivery on his forehead. This was the second blow on his helmet in
consecutive overs, having previously struck by a bouncer of Ishant Sharma.
Before being retired hurt, Liton was on 24.

Bangladesh, however, won the toss and opted to bat first but it again
backfired like the Indore Test as Indian pacers came all guns blazing.

Opener Shadman was the top-scorer at this point with 29.

Ishant Sharma drew the blood first, having taken out shaky Imrul Kayes for
4, via leg-before Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami went all over on Bangladesh.

Yadav sliced the middle order, removing Mominul Haque and Mohammad Mithun,
both for naught in three deliveries.

Mohammed Shami, who bowled extremely well so far, rewarded with the wicket
of Mushfiqur Rahim, who too made 0. It meant, Bangladesh’s No. 3, 4 and 5
batsman returned to the dressing room before opening their account.

Opener Shadman Islam so far held the one end with luck and pluck but the
Bangladeshi batsmen’s problem to poke the ball outside of the off, too
occupied him as Yadav had caught him by Wriddhiman Saha for 29.

Sharma came back to take the scalp of Mahmudullah for 6 as Bangladesh was
reduced to 60-6.

Liton Das meanwhile seemed to play on different surface and took Indian
pacers with disdain before being retired hurt.

Umesh Yadav claimed 3-39 while Sharma returned figures of 2-11. Shami
contributed with 1-11.
