Stocks extend loss to open week as major sectors dip

DHAKA, June 3, 2018 (BSS) – Stock markets extended loss to open the week downtrend on Sunday as most of the major sectors closed lower despite higher transactions.

Among the falling major sectors were bank, insurance, fuel and power, pharmaceuticals and chemicals and food and allied. A total of 152 securities of the large-cap group incurred loss due to lower activities.

The broader index DSEX of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) finished the first session of the week with 26.91 points down at 5,316.97. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 10.13 points down at 1,228.18 and with 9.54 points down at 1,965.46.

Out of the 337 issues traded on DSE, 115 gained against 182 losing issues.

The trade value at DSE increased to Taka 425.50 crore from the previous session’s Taka 361.89 crore and the trade volume also rose to 9.47 crore from 8.59 crore shares of Thursday’s trading.

The five major gaining companies were Ambee Pharma, USMANIAGL, NAHEEACP, Aziz Pipes and Eastern Lubricant. The five major losing companies were Shahjalal Bank, Provati Insurance, INTRACO, Advent and GHAIL.

The top five turnover leaders were AIL, Monno Ceramics, INTRACO, Beximco and KPCL.

Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed the day down, with its major CASPI index ending 68.93 points lower at 16,422.17.

At CSE, 207 issues were traded. Of those, 68 issues closed higher while 105 issues lower.
