Qatar to work with Bangladesh on climate issue

DHAKA, Nov 21, 2019 (BSS) – Ambassador of Qatar to Bangladesh Ahmed Mohammed Nasser Al-Dehaimi today said that Doha will work in cohesion with Dhaka on the climate change issue.

The ambassador evinced such interest when he made a courtesy call on Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin at his secretariat office here, said a press release.

The government of Qatar always raises voice in the international forums on the climate change issue, he said, adding that if necessary his country will sign a memorandum of understating (MoU) with Bangladesh, apply mutual experiences and implement multipurpose programmes to face the adverse impact of the climate change.

The envoy lauded Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her prudent leadership and said the future generation of the country will see a new Bangladesh as it is being developed rapidly.

Speaking about the Rohingya crisis, Al-Dehaimi said Qatar will continue putting pressure on all international forums, including the United Nations (UN), for resolving the crisis.

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin thanked the Qatar envoy and said the two friendly countries can work together in many other sectors for reaping the benefits.

At the meeting, Al-Dehaimi invited the environment, forest and climate change minister to join the Qatar’s National Day programmes to be held on December 9 in Bangladesh.

Additional secretaries of the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry Dr Nurul Kabir and Mahmud Hasan were present at the meeting.
