HC issues rule over expulsion of PEC examinees

DHAKA, Nov 21, 2019 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today issued a rule
asking officials concerned to explain within two weeks as to why it shall not
declare the expel of 15 examinees of the ongoing Primary Education Completion
(PEC) examinations illegal.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and
Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order on suo moto, asking four
officials, including Primary and Mass Education Secretary and Director
General of Directorate of Primary Education, to submit their explanations on
December 10.

The court also asked why paragraph 11 of the guidelines on PEC and
Ebtedayee examinations issued by the Directorate of Primary Education should
not be declared illegal and why order shall not be passed to take
examinations afresh of those expelled students.

A national daily on November 19 ran a report on expelling of 15 PEC
examinees throughout the country and Supreme Court lawyer Advocate AM Jamiul
Haque drew court’s attention to the matter.
