TCB starts open market onion sale in Khulna

KHULNA, Nov 21, 2019 (BSS) – Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has started selling imported onion in open market for the first time in the Khulna city at Taka 45 per kg here today to help people buy this cooking ingredient at a fair price.

After beginning of onion scarcity in the country, TCB has taken these steps to sell onion in open market.

“We have started open market sale of onion today initially at five spots
in the city,” said Khulna Regional Officer of TCB Md Rabiul Morshed today.

To contain the soaring onion price, the Ministry of Commerce has already instructed the TCB to sell the onion at a subsidized rate in the country, he added.

He said no one will get chance to stockpile onion and TCB will sell the
essential item at the rate fixed by the government

TCB has informed this in open onion markets in Tutpara area, in front of DC’s office, Bottala near New market, Khalishpur and Moylapota intersection, he said.

The lower and middle class dwellers of the city became very happy to get the onion in a comparatively very cheap price.

Local Public representatives, law enforcement agencies are helping the TCB vans to sell the onion in a disciplined way with proper queue to avoid rush of the buyers.

None was given more than one kg onion, TCB sources said.
