Father happy over speed of Abrar killing case proceedings

DHAKA, Nov 21, 2019 (BSS) – Md Barkatullah, father of murdered Bangladesh University of Engineering Technology (BUET) student Abrar Fahad, today expressed his satisfaction over the speed of the proceedings of the case filed over the killing of his son.

He conveyed his satisfaction while meeting Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq at his Gulshan office in the capital.

“We mainly talked about the proceedings of the case at the lower court and he expressed his satisfaction over the speed of the case proceedings. He also requested us to include two lawyers of their choice in the prosecution team, and we agreed,” the law minister said at a briefing held after the meeting.

Anisul said Abrar’s father has also requested to hold the trial in speedy trial tribunal. “I informed him that we have already made a decision to hold this trial in speedy trial tribunal,” he added.

The meeting took place within 10 days of filing of the charge sheet in the sensational case. Detective Branch (DB) of police on November 13 filed the charge sheet against 25 persons.

BUET students and the varsity authorities found seemingly lifeless body of Abrar, 22, on first-floor stairs of Sher-e-Bangla Hall and rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead at around 6.30 am on October 7.

Abrar’s father filed the case with Chawkbazar Police Station against 19 people on the same day.
