Turna Nishita loco master, 2 others were at fault for train crash: minister

DHAKA, Nov 20, 2019 (BSS) – Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan today said the Brahmanbaria train accident took place as loco master, assistant loco master and guard of the intercity train Turna Nishita Express operated the train without following the signals properly.

The minister said this while addressing a press briefing at his ministry office here to disclose the findings of the reports submitted by the three probe committees formed to investigate the tragedy.

“Loco master Taser Uddin, assistant loco master Apu Dey and guard Md Abdur Rahman of the Turna Nishita Express have been found responsible by the probe bodies for the train accident as they ignored the signals during operating the train,” Sujan said.

Noting that findings of the three committees are almost the same, the minister said the committee gave some recommendations to avert such a train accident in the future.

The recommendations included setting up locomotive close circuit cameras to monitor activities of the loco masters, assistant loco masters and guards, arranging training for employees engaged in operating trains regularly, taking measures to fill up the vacant posts at train operation section and launching close user group mobile phones or other modern communication system to maintain communication between trains and stations and automatic train stop system at Bangladesh Railway (BR), he said.
