PM greets members of armed forces

DHAKA, Nov 20, 2019 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today greeted members of the Armed Forces on the occasion of the Armed Forces Day-2019 to be observed tomorrow.

In a message on the eve of the day, she said, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had started the work to build modern armed forces in independent Bangladesh.

She said the armed forces developed by Bangabandhu are showing signs of professionalism and efficiency in their all activities.

The Prime Minister said the entire Bangalee nation joined the War of Liberation in 1971 at the call of Bangabandhu, the greatest Bangalee of all times.

“During the War of Liberation led by the Awami League government on this day (November 21) in 1971, patriotic people, Muktibahini, the armed forces and different paramilitary forces launched combined attacks against the occupation forces,” she said, adding that the final victory was achieved by defeating the occupation forces on December 16 in 1971.

Sheikh Hasina said the Armed Forces Day is observed every year on November 21 in commemoration of advancement and victory of the Bangalee nation in the War of Liberation.

The Father of the Nation started structuring skilled armed forces after the Liberation War along with rebuilding the country, she mentioned.

For Bangladesh Army, Bangabandhu established Military Academy, Combined Armed School besides launching training schools in every corps and formed different units, the premier said.

Bangabandhu collected two navy ships from Yugoslavia at his own initiatives which are also in service. He also collected Supersonic Mig-21 fighter jet, helicopter, passenger plane and radar from Soviet Union, she said.

“The government has been working relentlessly to modernize the defence forces…Its main purpose is expanding the force size, acquiring modern war-machines and providing next level training,” she added.

Following the defence policy directed by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Forces Goal 2030 has been implemented to modernize the three forces, said the premier.

On the occasion of the historic “Armed Forces Day”, Sheikh Hasina conveyed her best wishes and gratitude to all the members of the armed forces and paid homage to the heroes, who sacrificed their lives for the country, and prayed for eternal peace of their departed souls.

She hoped that members of the armed forces will be discharging their respective duties sincerely with patriotism, professionalism and higher moral ideology.

The Prime Minister wished success of all the programmes taken on the occasion of the Armed Forces Day-2019.
