Police-people joints efforts stressed for crime-free society

RANGPUR, Nov 20, 2019 (BSS) – Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud has stressed on engaging joint efforts of police and people to curb crimes and resolve local issues for building a crime-free peaceful society.

“Police and common people should work on the doctrine of ‘Police are People- People are Police’ for improving the law and order situation,” Alim said while addressing views-exchange meeting at Nasirabad area here on Tuesday night as the chief guest.

The Community Policing Committee of Ward No-18 organised the meeting on ‘Prevention of drug, militancy, eve-teasing and child marriage’ with its Presiding Dr. Md. Rowshanuzzman in the chair, a press release said here on Wednesday evening.

Deputy Police Commissioner (Headquarters) of RpMP Md. Mohidul Islam, its Deputy Police Commissioner (Headquarters and Admin) Abdullah Faruk, Additional Deputy Police Commissioner (Headquarters) Md. Jamir Uddin and President of Rangpur Metropolitan Committee Policing Committee Idris Ali addressed the meeting.

Police officials, members of the community policing community of Ward No-18, freedom fighters, religious and community leaders, civil society members, teachers, students, youths and elite were present.

The RpMP Chief said community policing could play a crucial role at community levels in bridging police-people to curb crimes, eliminate social curses and maintain law and order for building a peaceful society.

“The community policing members should identify local problems, conflicts and minor disputes and resolve those locally with assistance of common people and police for saving the commoners from hassles,” he added.

He put emphasis on strengthening of activities of community policing to enhance communication, interaction, trust, confidence and understanding and reduce the gap between police and common people at community levels.

He suggested members of community policing committee to inspire common people in extending full cooperation to police force as per constitutional obligation in preventing and resisting social curses, crimes, terrorism, drug and militancy.
