INDORE, Nov 18, 2019 (BSS)-From the experience of first practice
session, Bangladesh found pink ball moves more than the traditional red ball,
a sign that is worrying for them against a highly pumped-up India fast
bowlers, who are considered as the best bowling unit at this moment.
Indeed Indian fast bowlers broke Bangladeshi batsmen down mentally in
the first Test in Indore to script an innings and 130 runs victory.
But Bangladesh’s all-rounder Mehidy Hasan said they are not tensed with
how the pink ball behaves, rather they are excited to be the part of pink
ball Test.
“I have batted today and found the ball moves more than the traditional
red ball. The ball seems to be heavy and if the bat connects the ball, it
goes quickly. I think pink ball can offer swing heavily from the beginning,”
Miraz said after the practice session under lights at Holkar Stadium in
Indore on Monday.
“Sometimes the ball cuts. Still it’s new and different. I can’t tell at
the moment how it would behave in the match.”
“It’s a totally new experience. We are not tensed at all, I think we all
are excited to play the day-night Test with pink ball for the first time.
That’s a matter of huge excitement. We remain normal and take the preparation
that we usually take before any match.”
He said that in pink ball the players would have to struggle first but
if one can adjust, he would find it easier to deal with.
“It is important to set you in the crease. If one can be set here, he
will find it easier,” he added.
“We didn’t get enough time to practice with the pink ball. But we are
trying to overcome our shortcomings.”
Miraz, predominantly an off-spinner, found some positive things in pink
ball for the spinners as he said that the tweakers would get bounce.
“Spinners, I think, can skid the ball. There may be some bounce and
turn. From what we have seen pink ball can offer bounce for the spinners.”
Miraz said that they would get more idea about pink ball after
practicing two more days.
“Still we can’t understand. We have practiced today, we’ll practice
tomorrow also. The pacers would practice, making the old ball wet. After a
couple of days, we’ll get a clear picture,” he remarked.
Miraz, who didn’t think himself as junior player now, said they should
have performed better and support the senior like Mushfiqur Rahim in the
second Test in Kolkata, beginning from November 22, to restore some pride.
“I have been playing Test cricket three years. I can’t say that I am a
junior player. I think we should have performed better now,” he said.
“The seniors’ performance over the years took us here. If we can perform
well, the team combination will be better. If you find the match that we won
in home and abroad, the combination of junior and senior was excellent. So
the junior’s performance, I mean the junior players who are playing for long,
is very important. The likes of me, Liton, Mustafizur, Shadman, Mithun should
step up to support the seniors,” he said.
