Community policing crucial for peaceful society: RpMP Commissioner

RANGPUR, Nov 18, 2019 (BSS) – Strengthening activities of community
policing could play a crucial role in bridging police-people to curb crimes,
eliminate social curses and maintain law and order for building a peaceful
society.

“Community policing can effectively boost interaction, trust, confidence
and understanding between police and common people,” said Rangpur
Metropolitan Police (RpMP) Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud said.

The RpMP chief came up with the opinion at the ‘Bit Policing and Community
Policing Meeting’ held at Burirhat area of Porshuram Police Station in the
city on Sunday afternoon as the chief guest.

Porshuram Thana of RpMP jointly with Buriurhat Bit Policing Committee
organised the meeting on prevention of drug, militancy, dowry, child
marriage, repression on women and children and maintaining law and order in
the society

Members of the city and local units of community policing communities,
religious and community leaders, women activists, civil society members,
teachers, students, youths and elite attended the event.

With local elite freedom Fighter Md. Shahidar Rahman in the chair, Deputy
Police Commissioner (Headquarters) Mohidul Islam, Additional Deputy Police
Commissioner (Crime) Md. Shahidullah Kawsar and other police officials
attended the meeting.

The speakers underscored the need for ensuring better coordination among
police and members of local community policing committee for reducing gap
between police and common people.

The chief guest urged members of community policing committee for engaging
themselves with spontaneous efforts by involving common people to extend full
cooperation to police in preventing and resisting social curses, crimes,
terrorism, drug and militancy.

He suggested community policing members for identifying local problems,
conflicts and minor disputes to resolve those locally with assistance of
common people and police and save the commoners from hassles.

“The common citizens should extend assistance to the police force as per
their constitutional obligation to curb and prevent crimes for building a
sustainable, peaceful and calm society,” he added.
