Three sent to jail in FR Tower design forgery case

DHAKA, Nov 17, 2019 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today sent three accused in a
case lodged against 23 persons over alleged forgery in the design of FR
Tower, a high-rise in capital’s Banani area, to jail.

The accused are: lessee of the land Syed Md Hossain Imam Faruk, former
RAJUK officials – Md Aorangjeb Siddique Nannu and Muhammad Shaokat Ali.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Qayesh passed the order as
the three surrendered before the court and pleaded for bail.

The High Court on November 5 scrapped their bail and asked them to
surrender before lower court within seven days.

A total of 27 people were killed and 70 others were injured in a
devastating fire that engulfed the building on March 28. The matter of design
forgery came into light as officials concerned were probing the fire
incident.

ACC filed two cases against 23 people for their alleged involvement in
design forgery and illegally extending FR Tower beyond the permitted number
of floors.
