Taxpayers hurrying to income tax fairs in Rangpur zone

RANGPUR, Nov 17, 2019 (BSS) – Taxpayers are rushing to Income Tax Fairs-2019 being held at the divisional, six district and five upazila level headquarters in Taxes Zone of Rangpur for the fourth consecutive day today.

Officials at the Tax Commissioner of Taxes Zone-Rangpur told BSS that the week-long income tax fair is being held at Zila Parishad Community Centre in Rangpur divisional city from November 14 last.

The four-day district level income tax fairs are now being held at Dinajpur, Lalmonirhat, Panchagarh, Kurigram, Thakurgaon and Nilphamari district headquarters.

Besides, the two-day upazila level income tax fairs are being at Syedpur in Nilphamari, Pirganj in Thakurgaon, Badarganj in Rangpur and Bochaganj and Phulbari upazila headquarters in Dinajpur under Taxes Zone-Rangpur.

“Some 9,290 taxpayers submitted return forms and paid Taka 3.54 crore as income taxes till Saturday at these fairs,” Deputy Tax Commissioner at Sadar Headquarters of Taxes Zone-Rangpur Suman Kumar Barman told BSS this noon.

At the same time, 20,491 taxpayers have received services and suggestions from income tax officials and 155 new tax payers registered their new e-TIN numbers in the last three days at these fairs till Saturday.

While talking to BSS in the fair today, taxpayers Shafikul Islam, Abu Zaher Md. Saifur Rahman and Mahbub-E-Rabbani expressed gratitude to income tax officials for extending full cooperation to them in paying income taxes in hassle-free manner.

Taxpayers Shah Alam, Swapna Rani and Ferdous Hossain thanked the officials for helping them in calculating their income taxes and filling out income tax return forms at the stalls set up on fair premises.

Tax Commissioner for Taxes Zone-Rangpur Md. Abdul Latif said income tax fairs are being arranged to inspire eligible citizens for spontaneous payment of income taxes easily in a hassle-free manner.

“We are observing huge rush of taxpayers at all income tax fairs being held in Taxes Zone-Rangpur this year to pay income taxes with assistance of income tax officials,” he said.

He expressed satisfaction over increasing number of rushing taxpayers to these fairs for availing various facilities being provided by the government through the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to easily pay their income taxes.

As per statistics on June 30 this year, there are 1.92-lakh taxpayers in all 22 circles under Taxes Zone-Rangpur and the number is expected to further increase during the current 2019-2020 FY in the zone.

“After realising Taka 630 crore as income taxes during the last 2018-2019 FY, we have fixed a target of collecting Taka 851 crore income taxes during the current 2019-2120 FY in the zone,” Latif added.
