RANGPUR, Nov 17, 2019 (BSS) – President of Bangladesh Chamber of
Industries (BCI) Anwarul-Ul-Alam Chowdhury Parvez has said industrialisation
at regional levels is crucial to create employment for attaining sustainable
national development.

“It will be very difficult to maintain the current economic growth
without creating efficient entrepreneurs for establishing industries
beginning with micro-, small- and medium scale ones cross the country to
generate huge jobs,” he said.

The BCI Chief expressed the view at a views-exchange meeting jointly
organised by BCI and Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industries (RCCI) at
RCCI auditorium here on Saturday afternoon as main discussant.

Presided over by RCCI President Mostafa Sohrab Chowdhury Titu,
Presidents, Senior Vice-presidents, Vice-presidents and Directors of ten
chambers from all eight districts in Rangpur division, industrialists,
entrepreneurs and journalists attended the event.

Senior Vice-president of RCCI Mostoba Hossain Ripon narrated prevailing
enormous prospects and barriers for industrialisation in Rangpur division and
forwarded suggestions for way-outs.

Former BCI President and former FBCCI Vice-president Mostafa Azad
Chowdhury Babu said the meeting was arranged for collecting information on
prevailing prospects and problems by BCI to take realistic steps for regional
industrialisation.

Vice-president of BCI Preeti Chakraborty, its Directors Dewar Hossain
Raja and Abul Kalam Bhuiyan spoke.

Leaders of all ten chambers of Rangpur division, leaders of other trade
organisations, entrepreneurs, industrialists and journalists discussed
prevailing prospects and a series of problems for industrialisation in the
division.

Knowing prevailing situation in Rangpur division, the BCI President said
the economy of the country has currently become dependent mainly on foreign
remittance from manpower export, textile and readymade garment (RMG) and
agriculture sectors.

“In developed countries, industries, especially the small-scale ones,
are creating maximum employment for their sustainable economic growth and
development,” he said.

However, industrialisation in Bangladesh has almost become confined in
Dhaka and Chattogram regions.

“Despite achieving a laudable success in national development in the
last ten years, it will not be possible to sustain the achieved success
without prospect-based industrialisation at district levels to create huge
jobs,” he said.

The BCI Chief said the reasons behind not flourishing of small- and
medium-scale industries should be found out as such industries are creating
maximum number of jobs in advanced countries for their sustainable
developments.

“Economic growth and economic development are different things. Our
economic growth and GDP are laudable,” he said expressing concern over rising
gap between the rich and poor.

He suggested for paying due attention to create entrepreneurs and assist
them properly for accelerating labour-dense regional industrialisation to
create huge jobs for overcoming the situation and maintain economic growth.

“We have to know reasons behind dropouts of entrepreneurs and successes
of some others before making project profiles after properly studying the
found out problems and prospects to go to transformation of industrialisation
to sustain industries,” he said.

He said BCI is planning to make a platform after studying situation at
field levels to place realistic proposals before the Prime Minister seeking
her cooperation for industrialisation at regional levels to create huge jobs
for sustainable national development.

The BCI President urged district level chamber leaders, industrialists
and entrepreneurs to continue working on prevailing prospects and problems
for industrialisation in their areas and forward their findings with
realistic suggestions to BCI for further steps.
