Derailment snaps rail link with north, south

SIRAJGANJ, Nov 14, 2019 (BSS) – Rail communication of Dhaka with the
northern and southern districts remained suspended after intercity train
Rangpur Express derailed in Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj this afternoon.

“Seven compartments including engine of the Rangpur-bound train from Dhaka
veered off the track near Ullapara Railway Station around 2 pm,” Railway
Secretary Md Mofazzal Hossain told BSS.

Two probe committees were formed to investigate into the rail accident,
the Railway Ministry sources said.

A five-member probe committee led by Sirajganj ADC General was formed to
find out the cause of the derailment of the train, they said, adding the
committee has been asked to submit its report within five working days.

Besides, Bangladesh Railway formed a four-member probe committee in this
regard and asked the committee to submit the report within seven working
days.

Train communication will resume soon as officials and employees concerned
started rescue operation, he added.

Two compartments including engine caught fire after derailment of the
train, said Tutul Chakraborty, Superintendent of Police (SP).

On information, members of the fire service rushed to the spot and brought
the blaze under control with the help of local people.

No casualty was reported till filling this report.
