JS body for conducting technical audit on telecom operators

DHAKA, Nov 13, 2019 (BSS) – The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has been asked to conduct technical and IT audit on the telecom operators, including Grameen phone, along with the financial audit.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Post Tele Communication and Information Technology made the recommendation at its fourth meeting at the Sangsad Bhaban here with committee Chairman AKM Rahmatullah in the chair, said a press release.

Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar joined the meeting at a special invitation while committee members State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Benjir Ahmed, Md Nurul Amin, Monira Sultana, Zakia Parvin Khanam and Aparajita Haque attended the meeting.

The parliamentary watchdog also suggested inclusion of data privacy and data protection in the Digital Security Act rules for increasing security of the social media.

The committee held discussions on the implementation progress of the last meeting’s decisions, manpower and pros and cons of modernization of the Directorate of Posts.

The meeting was informed that a total of 8,500 post offices, including 8,000 in villages, 423 in upazilas and 77 sub post offices, across the country have been modernized.

The meeting was also informed that a digital financial service ‘Nagad’ has been launched to bring the underprivileged people under the digital banking service.

Posts and Telecommunications secretary and other concerned officials of the ministry and parliament secretariat were present at the meeting.
