Babu upheld ideals and spirits of liberation war till his death: Quader

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 13, 2019 (BSS) – Road Transport and Bridges Minister
Obaidul Quader today said former Presidium Member of Bangladesh Awami League
(AL) and former President of Chattogram South District unit Akhtaruzzaman
Chowdhury Babu upheld the ideals and spirits of liberation war till his
death.

He said, “Akhaturzzaman Chowdhury was the leader of mass people and one of
the prime organizer’s of the liberation war. Both ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury and
Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury were unparallel and uncompromised leaders of AL and
they never surrendered to injustices.”

The AL general secretary said this as chief guest while addressing a
memorial meeting of Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu, held at KB Convention Hall
in the port city this afternoon.

AL South District unit President Moslem Uddin Ahmed presided over the
commemorative meeting.

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, elder son of Late Akhtaruzzaman and
Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed, Deputy Education Minister
Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, City Mayor AJM Nasiruddin, Nazrul
Islam Chowdhury, MP, Abu Reza Mohammad Nadvi, MP, Special Assistant to Prime
Minister Barrister Biplob Barua, Deputy Publicity Secretary of AL central
committee Aminul Islam, General Secretary of north and south district unit of
AL MA Salam and Mofizur Rahman were present as special guests.

Chattogram city North and South units of AL jointly organized the
commemorative meeting.

Speaking at the memorial meeting, Quader reiterated that in recognition of
Akhtaruzzaman Babu’s valuable contribution to the party, the Prime Minister
appointed Babu’s son Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed as state minister and later
Javed was given the portfolio of full minister for his honesty and
dedication.

The minister recalled with great respect the political activities of
Akhtaruzzaman Babu when he was a student at Chattogram University.

Speaking on the occasion, information minister and AL publicity and
publication secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud said Babu Bhai upheld the flag of
independent Bangladesh in the holy soil of Chattogram after the assassination
of Bangabandhu and most of his family members.

Deputy Minister for Education Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel
said, “During 1/11 period, I had an opportunity to meet with Akhtaruzzaman
Babu uncle and following his aspirations and advices, I ensued my political
career with Awami League.”

Nowfel said, “My father Mohiuddin Chowdhury and Akhteruzzamn Chowdhury
were close associates and they took part in the liberation war jointly.”

Saifuzzamn Chowdhury Javel delivered the welcome speech and recollected
the contributions of his father Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury.

“Following the sacrifices of my father, along with other senior leaders of
AL, Bangladesh emerged as independent Bangladesh and he never betrayed with
Bangabandhu, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as well as the party,” he added.

City Mayor AJM Nasir said late Akhtaruzzaman Babu never felt proud of
identifying himself as an industrialist rather he identified him as a
politician and always loved people irrespective of caste and creed.
